Environment

At Company of Cooks we understand that we have a responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment now and into the future.

Some notable recent initiatives;

Disposable Packaging

In 2008 we decided that where we had to use disposable packaging and cutlery (mainly in our ‘takeaway’ outlets) we would buy only materials sourced from sustainable resources and only materials that were fully compostable on disposal. Working with London Bio Packaging, from 2009 all our disposable cups, glasses and packaging film complied with this and from 2010 all our ‘plastic’ cutlery is made from corn starch and is compostable after use. Where we have the facilities to compost these materials we do so.

ISO 14001

Our operations at RHS Garden Wisley have held ISO14001 accreditation since June 2008. Our operations in all The Royal Parks are compliant with our Landlords ISO14001 accreditation.

Closed Loop Recycling

At Chiswick House & Gardens, in a new partnership with Juniper all our food, disposable cups, glasses and cutlery waste is sorted and collected by and composted for use on farms in Kent. In the first 4 months of operation we have recycled and composted 3,135kg of food and disposable packaging that would otherwise have gone to landfill, producing 1,254kg of compost.

Our Vehicles

In 2008 we decided to replace our entire fleet of vehicles with the most environmentally acceptable alternatives practical as they came up for replacement. We now use 4 electric vehicles, 2 dual fuel LPG/Petrol vans and two Bio Diesel capable vans in our fleet.
