Clissold Park
In the 1880s the grounds of Clissold Park were threatened with development. Two prominent campaigners, Joseph Beck and John Runtz persuaded the Board at The Metropolitan Board of Works to buy the land and create a public park.
In 1889, Clissold Park was opened and the two ponds in the park are named the Beckmere and the Runtzmere in honour of the two principal founders.
Set in the 54 acres of green parkland, Clissold House is at the very heart of the local community. Following a recent refurbishment, this much-loved Georgian house is now reopen, with many of its original features preserved.
